Bearcats Defeat Hunter to Take Over CUNYAC First Place

The men's volleyball team won their fifth straight match and took over first place in the CUNYAC standings after defeating their rival Hunter College Hawks in four sets on Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats won with scores of 25-22, 17-25, 25-20, 25-23 to also go to a 4-0 record in the CUNYAC.

The team will continue their busy schedule with a match on Tuesday night at Lehman College.

HIGHLIGHTS

* Rookie Jack Centeno was tops again with 15 kills to go along with four digs.

* Wen Cheung totaled a career-high 21 digs.

* Stallone Shankar came up big on both ends: 27 assists and four blocks. He also added seven digs.

* Akil Vaughn tied a career-high with six blocks.

* Andrew Ubanwa notched a career-high 10 kills and two key blocks.

* Ryan Oommen had a solid match with 10 assists and tied a career-high in aces (3) and digs (5).

* The two teams were tied at 22 in the fourth set, but the Bearcats collected three of the last four points to win 25-23 to clinch the match.

* Blocking was key to the win with the Bearcats totaling a season-high 23. Hunter had six.

* Ted Kim led the visiting Hawks with 14 kills.
