Baseball Sweeps John Jay to Stay Undefeated in CUNYAC

The baseball team defeated the Bloodhounds of John Jay College 8-1 and 14-1 in a home CUNYAC doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.

The pitching limited John Jay to two total runs and nine hits, while the Bearcats pounded out 22 runs and 22 hits to help stretch their winning streak to seven in a row.

The pair of wins also keeps the Bearcats at the top of the CUNYAC standings with a 6-0 record.

HIGHLIGHTS

GAME 1


* David Sierra Perez earned the complete game win with seven innings, one earned run, two walks and four strikeouts.

* The Bearcats took control early with a five-run lead after two innings.

* Thomas Drouin (2-for-3) smacked his second inside of the park homer this season. He finished with three RBI and two runs scored.

* Joseph Cocozza (2-for-4, 1 run) and Natanael Castillo (2-for-3, triple, 2 runs, 1 RBI) each had two hits. Castillo's triple to plate Steven Patterson in the second inning stood as the winning run. 

 * Nicholas Umile had a two-run double in the big four-run second inning.

Game 2

" Robert Fischer earned the win pitching six innings, allowing only three hits, one earned run, three walks and striking out seven. Nicholas Rowe pitched a quiet 1-2-3 seventh inning with one strikeout to seal the win.

* The Bearcats broke open the contest with six runs in the third inning to lead 9-1 after four innings. 

* Cocozza had a big game batting 4-or-4, with a homer, double, five RBI and three runs scored. He smacked a three-run homer in the fifth inning.

* Luke Lombardi, Pedro Tejada, Jr. and Castillo each had two hits in the win.

* Patterson scored three runs and walked twice.
