Baseball Stays Undefeated in CUNYAC

The baseball team swept a doubleheader from the Beavers of CCNY on Friday afternoon at Bronx Community College.   

The visiting Bearcats won 11-2 and 24-8 totaling 30 hits for a pair of wins that keeps them undefeated in CUNYAC at 8-0.

HIGHLIGHTS

GAME 1

* Matthew Lawlor pitched his third straight CUNYAC complete game with a line of 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, and a career-high nine strikeouts to raise his record to 3-1.

* The Bearcats set the tone early with four runs in their opening at-bat. CCNY cut the score to 4-2 after three innings, but the Bearcats finished strong with a four-run seventh inning.

* Pedro Tejada batted 3-for-3, with a homer, three RBI, and three runs scored in the win.

* Brian Hwang batted 2-for-3 with a triple.

* Joseph Cocozza, Robert Wakely, and Hwang had two stolen bases each.

GAME 2

* The second game began with both teams piling on runs for a 4-3 CCNY lead after the first inning. The lead did not last long as the Bearcats scored eight runs in each of the third and fourth innings.

* Luke Lombardi, Michael Paray, and Hwang each had three hits. Cocozza finished with four, which included two triples. Lombardi's three hits were all doubles. 
  
* Nataneal Castillo and Cocozza scored four runs each. Tejada, Lombardi, and Lucius Paradiso scored three runs each in the high-scoring affair.

* Benjamin Ackerman earned the pitching win leaving after five innings with four strikeouts in a solid effort.
