Men's Volleyball Plays #5 Rutgers-Newark in NCAA First Round

The men's volleyball team lost in three tough sets to Rutgers-Newark on Friday afternoon at the Golden Dome in Newark, New Jersey.

The host Scarlet Raiders won with scores of 25-17, 25-14, 25-19 to advance to the second round on Saturday.

The Bearcats totaled 27 kills hitting .227, but the hosts totaled 45 kills hitting .500 for the home post-season win. 

Three Bearcats had six kills each - Jack Centeno, Akil Vaughnn, Haoxin Hu - to lead the attack while Stallone Shankar finished a brilliant career with 20 assists and five digs.

Arvind Kumar was tops for the Scarlet Raiders with 14 kills (.619). 

The Bearcats finish their second straight CUNYAC championship season with a 16-13 overall record.
