Bearcats Advance to CUNYAC Championship Series, Defeat Lehman in Playoff

The baseball team recorded an 11-2 CUNYAC playoff win against Lehman College on Tuesday afternoon at Flowers Park in New Rochelle.

The Bearcats advance to Friday's three-game CUNYAC championship series at Maimonides Park (formerly MCU Park) at 12 p.m. to play the second playoff winner on Wednesday between CCNY or John Jay.

The win also helps the Bearcats improve their season record to 14-9.

PLAYOFF HIGHLIGHTS

* The Bearcats fell behind 1-0 in the second inning, but exploded for five runs on four hits in their next at-bat for a 5-1 score. They added five more runs in the sixth en route to the post-season home win.

* Matthew Lawlor stays undefeated at 5-0 after another complete game effort going nine innings with four hits, two earned runs, and six strikeouts. He entered today's playoff with four complete games this season (all seven innings in CUNYAC doubleheaders), but today he went the full nine innings in the single game elimination win.

* Joseph Cocozza (2-for-3, double, 1 RBI) and Steven Patterson (2-for-4, triple, 2 RBI) had two hits each.

* Thomas Drouin, Luke Lombardi, and Patterson scored two runs each.

* Pedro Tejada, Jr. had three walks in the win.

* Drouin's RBI triple in the second inning stands as the winning hit.
