Men's Basketball Holds on to Defeat York

The men's basketball team won a tough home contest defeating the Cardinals of York College, 64-59, on Tuesday night.

The final 35 seconds decided the contest as the Bearcats pulled out the victory in a game decided at the free throw line.

The Bearcats led by two points (59-57) with 35 seconds left but two free throws by Devin Nicholson gave them a 61-57 lead.

York came back with two free throws of their own to get close again at 61-59 but Gerard Nicholson was then fouled and he hit his free throws for a 63-59 score with 18 seconds left.

York went down court and missed a three, which was quickly rebounded by Gerard and he was fouled. He hit one of two free throws and York missed another three down court to finish with the 64-59 score.

Both team struggled shooting in the second half but the Bearcats connected on 13-of-15 free throws to put them over the top.

Devin Nicholson led another balanced scoring attack with 14 points, while his brother Gerard had 13 and Jehmehl Fair scored 12.

Emil Purisic grabbed 14 rebounds, while Akil Vaughn was a force off the bench again with eight points and eight rebounds.
 
Tavon Price scored 18 points for the visitors.
