Men's Soccer Wins 2023 CUNYAC Championship, Earn NCAA Berth!

The Baruch College Bearcats are the CUNYAC men's soccer champions defeating Brooklyn College 2-0 in the championship match on Saturday afternoon at neutral site Queens College.

This the team's eighth all-time CUNYAC championship title and third in the past five seasons. Head Coach Dimitry Kamenschik has been an associate or head coach for all eight titles dating back to 2004.

With the win, the Bearcats also earn the league's automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship Tournament. The NCAA selection show is scheduled for Monday, November 6, at 2:00 p.m. on NCAA.com. The first round match is scheduled for Friday, November 10.

"I'm so proud of this championship," said Kamenshchik. "These players worked so hard getting up for practices early morning starting in August and putting in the work necessary to win this championship. My coaches Roni Hahitti, Bryan Nunez and Stanley Goldberg, all Baruch alums who also won this title when they played as an undergraduate, we all know what it takes to win and the players followed our game plan to perfection. We look forward to playing again in the NCAA."

The Bearcats scored first through Julio Ramirez via an assist from Ammar Ahmedshaker at 29:23.

Both sides had chances to score in the second half and the Bearcats did hit the cross bar, but the tough match was decided at 88:19 when rookies Diego Sachun scored on a Andrew Kinal assist to clinch the 2-0 victory and start the celebrations that included fans and family in the bleachers.

The Bearcats out-shot Brooklyn 15-10 to lift the trophy and bring back the hardware again to Lexington Avenue.

Ahmedshaker was solid at right-back and attacking up front and was deservedly named the Championship MVP.
