Baseball Loses Tough DH to Maritime (2-1, 4-2)

The baseball team took on the Privateers of SUNY Maritime in a doubleheader on Saturday played as the home team as Maritime's Reinhart Field in the Throggsneck section of the Bronx.

The Bearcats lost a pitching duel in each game as the Privateers from the Skyline Conference pulled out close victories.

In the first game, Nathaniel Demchak pitched a solid six innings (4H, 2R, 2ER, 4BB, 2K), but the lineup was limited to three hits, which included a deep homer to left field by Robert Wakely to tie the contest in the bottom of the third (1-1).

The Privateers went ahead 2-1 in their top half of the fourth and allowed only one Bearcat base runner over the final four innings for the complete game win by Shane Sullivan.

In the second game, the Bearcats started strong with Brian Hwang blasting a two-run homer in the bottom second to deep left field that plated Jacob Auerbach.

The Privateers scored all four of their runs in the top of the fifth on back-to-back homers by Matt Milone (3 run shot) and Michael Frazzetta to jump ahead 4-2.

The game ended 4-2 as the Bearcats could only get one single in the final three innings as pitcher Stanley Barndon (4-0) held on for the victory.

Andrew Horyczun and Joseph Cocozza each smacked a single in the loss.
