Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Starts Season in Sunny Fort Myers, Florida

The baseball team started their schedule on a warm Wednesday morning in Fort Myers, Florida.

The trip was their first to Florida since March 2020 before the spring cancellations.

Hiram College is centrally located in Northeast Ohio between Cleveland and Pittsburgh and compete in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).

The Bearcats were the visiting team in the 9:00 a.m. game of the doubleheader and scored on their first-at-bat after Pedro Tejada, Jr. smacked an RBI single to center field to plate Andrew Horyczun.

The Terriers tied the game in their first-at-bat and added two more in the second inning to jump ahead 3-1.

Tejada, Jr smacked another RBI single in the third inning to score Horyczun to cut the score to 3-2.

The 3-2 score continued until the final seventh inning when Joseph Cocozza hit an RBI single to score Horyczun for the third time to make it 3-3.

Unfortunately, the Terriers would win the game on a walk-off via a Kyle Adams RBI single.

In the second game, the Terriers as the visiting team took control early scoring twice in the first inning and eight runs in the second.

The lead would later grow to 12-0 but the Bearcats did not go away quietly scoring four runs in their final at-bat to spoil the shutout and end with a bang.

Kenneth Taveras scored the first run after Horyczun was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Brian Hwang scored the second on a wild pitch and Tejada, Jr. capped off a four RBI opening day performance with a two-run double to left center that brought home Robert Wakely and Roy Longarzo.
