MBB Drops Home Opener to Old Westbury

The men's basketball team lost 88-75 to the Panthers of SUNY Old Westbury on Wednesday night in the ARC Arena. 

The contest was close early and Gerard Nicholson gave the Bearcats a 23-20 lead on a jumper.

The visiting Panthers scored 20 of the next 24 points and connected on three 3-pointers during the final two minutes to jump ahead at halftime 40-27.

The Bearcats started the second half and cut the deficit on several occasions to seven points thanks to Brandon Goldberg who battled and went to the free throw line multiple times.

The visiting Panthers connected on 6-of-9 three in the second half and that enabled them to lead by double-digits en route to the victory.

Goldberg shined in his home debut with a double-double of 24 points (14-18 FT) and 10 rebounds. Nicholson (10-15) finished with 21 points and Jack Gordon (6-11 fg) scored 15.

The Bearcats shot 59.2% (16-27 fg) in the second half but could not overtime the late first half run by the Panthers.

Amadi Lee-Kane led the visitors from the Skyline Conference with 24 points.
