Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Downs Albright (90-84) in High-Scoring Match Up

The men's basketball team earned their first win of the season defeating the Lions from Albright College, 90-84, in the third place game of the Greg Grant Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Ewing, New Jersey.

The two teams played a tight first half exchanging leads but the Bearcats took control with 3:25 left before halftime scoring eight straight points that started with a Nicholas Lam three, a 3-point play by Gerard Nicholson, and a Brandon Goldberg layup to go ahead 43-34.

The Lions from Pennsylvania, who compete in the 16 team Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), ended the first half with five straight points to cut the Bearcats' advantage at halftime to 43-39.

The Bearcats lead in the second half twice dwindled down to just one point, including 52-51 with 14:55 left, but the offense came alive again as Lam and Nicholson combined to score 10 points mid-way though the second half to build a double-digit 67-55 advantage.

The Lions battled all the way back to cut the score back down to 79-76 but the Bearcats pulled away for good on a pair of three throws by Nicholson and another three by Lam for 84-76.

Nicholson then scored four of his 27 points in the final 30 seconds, all on free throws, and another rookie came up big as Trevon Coppin connected on two free throws with 12 seconds left to help seal the first win of the season.

The 27 points (7-7 FT) tonight by Nicholson was a career-high, while Goldberg notched his third straight double-double with 18 points, 12 rebounds and also contributed three assists. Goldberg was also named to the All-Tournament Team.

Lam recorded a career-high off the bench with 17 points (4-4, 3-3 3fg, 6-8 FT) and sophomore Jack Gordon scored in double-figures for the third straight game with 13 points.

Eric Chamberlain led five Lions players in double figures with 17 points.
