Women's Swimming Defeats John Jay in CUNYAC Opener

The women's swimming team won a 64-30 CUNYAC meet at John Jay College on Friday night.

The visiting Bearcats won 12 of the 13 events to improve their season record to 4-1 and 1-0 in the CUNYAC.
 
Sophomore Allyse Alexander finished first in the 50 Yard Freestyle (25.42) posting the second fastest time of the season. She now holds the top two team times this season in the 50 free. Allyse also won the 100 Yard Butterfly (1:02.35) by 20 seconds and was also part of the winning 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (1:51.28).  

Rookie Ashley Leal also had a big meet against John Jay. The rookie finished first in the events of 200 Yard Freestyle (2:13.22), 100 Yard Freestyle (1:00.68), and was also part of the winning the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (1:51.28) in another big meet for the three-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week.

Both Allyse (Swimmer of the Week) and Ashley (Rookie of the Week) earned top CUNYAC honors this week for December 16, 2024. 

Junior Kira Chen also won three events winning the 100 Yard Backstroke (1:04.37), 200 yard IM (2:26.15) , and was a part of winning the 200 Yard Medley Relay (2:15.40).

Junior Kaetlyn Chavez was in the 3-time winning party as she was victorious in the marathon 1,000 Free (13:06.93), 500 Yard Free (6:30.47), and as a part of the winning the 200 Yard Free Relay (1:51.28).
