MBB Fall to FDU Florham in Final Game of Steel City Holiday Classic (84-79)

The men's basketball team lost a tough 84-79 contest to the Devils from FDU Florham in the third-place game of the Steel Club Holiday Classic on Monday afternoon in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

The Bearcats took a 34-33 halftime lead by limiting the Devils to 33 percent shooting (13-for-39 fg). They received 10 first-half points from Gerard Nicholson's hot hand (4-5 fg).

They started the second half strong leading by 10 points on three occasions, including 60-50 with 11:36 left.

The Devils rallied scoring 10 of the next 12 points to tie the contest at 62 with 8:27 left.

The Bearcats kept control as a jumper by Nicholson created a 69-66 lead, but the Devils scored the next seven points for their biggest lead of 73-69.

That forced the Bearcats to play catch up and they cut the deficit to 81-79 on a three by Brandon Goldberg with 58 seconds left.

The Devils scored the last three points in the final seconds to hold on to the narrow 84-79 victory.

Goldberg led the Bearcats with 27 points and shot 10-of-14 from the field. He also added nine rebounds and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Nicholson finished with 19 points and Nicholas Lam added 10 in 16 minutes.

Jaqwan Washington led the Devils from the MAC Freedom Conference with 17 points.
