U.S. Coast Guard Rally in 4th Quarter to Defeat WBB

The women's basketball team faced off in a non-conference matchup against the United States Coast Guard Academy on Monday afternoon in New London, Connecticut.

The visiting Bearcats led throughout the contest but the Bears rallied in the fourth quarter for the 69-58 home win before New Year's Eve.

Early in the first quarter, the Bearcats trailed 15-5 but then went on a 13-2 run behind Mia Castillo's 15 first-quarter points to take an 18-17 lead.

In the second quarter, Elissa Leung hit three big 3-pointers in the final three minutes to give the Bearcats a 31-27 lead at halftime.

The Bearcats did not lose their momentum during the halftime break as they went on a 10-4 run in the first three minutes of the third quarter to jump ahead 41-31.

However, as the fourth quarter got underway, the Bearcats could not hold onto their lead and Coast Guard went on an 18-7 run in the final three minutes to win their home game 69-58.

Castillo ended the game with 34 points to stay as the NCAA's second-leading scorer. Leung finished with 18 points.

Julia Mann was tops for the Bears with 15 points and 19 rebounds.
