Mia Castillo Scores Her 2,000th Career Point in Home Win vs. CCNY on Alumni Day

Baruch College held its annual Bearcats' Alumni Day on Saturday afternoon in a CUNYAC basketball doubleheader against CCNY.

The women's basketball team finished with an 88-46 win against the visiting CCNY Beavers. Before tip-off, two players were honored for making team history.

Elissa Leung was presented with a special basketball to recognize her on becoming the 18th player in Baruch women's basketball history to reach the milestone of 1,000 points in her career during a game against SUNY Poly on December 14, 2024.

Mia Castillo was then presented with a special honorary award for becoming the Baruch women's basketball all-time leading scorer on November 26, 2024. Then, Castillo created more history in the second half of the game against CCNY.

With 8:56 left in the third quarter, Castillo made a layup off an assist by Leung. This was a special moment for Castillo as she became Baruch's all-time leading scorer (men & women) and the first women's player at Baruch to reach the milestone of 2,000 career points. After the game, her teammates and family came to center court to take pictures with Baruch College President S. David Wu in recognizing Castillo for the brilliant achievement.

In the first quarter, the Bearcats got off to a hot start. They started with a 9-0 run within the opening three minutes. The score after the first quarter was 32-12 and this is the most points scored during the first quarter this season. Leung made three three-pointers in the first eight minutes. The second quarter saw the Bearcats playing high-intensity defense, holding the Beavers of CCNY to just three points.

They did not lose their momentum after the halftime break. They scored 40 points combined in the second half of action.

Castillo scored 25 points to go along with ten steals. Leung scored 16 points with four three-pointers. Madison Thornton-Lewis had a season-high 15 points with eight rebounds. The Bearcats were active on the boards as Precious Mitchell grabbed 14 rebounds, followed by Lillianna Morales with 13, and Angela Bacarella and Thornton-Lewis with eight each.

Kasia Morrison of the opposing CCNY Beavers finished with 16 points.
