The women's basketball team faced off in a Friday night CUNYAC home matchup against the Cougars of Medgar Evers College in the first game of a doubleheader.
The Bearcats finished with a big victory, 85-56.
Tonight's game extends their win streak to three and their CUNYAC regular season record to 3-2.
The squad trailed by as many as eight points at the 4:02 mark of the second quarter. A two-point jumper shot by Mia Castillo kick-started a 22-5 run for the remainder of the first half en route to a 43-34 halftime lead.
After 6:34 in the third quarter, the lead never went below double-digits and grew bigger. The Cougars scored 22 points in the second half compared to an impressive 42 from the Bearcats.
The strong intensity on defense only allowed seven points from the Cougars in the third quarter with three made field goals (3-14 FG).
Castillo scored 41 points (17-36 FG, 2-4 3PT) with eight threes, six rebounds, and four steals.
Elissa Leung tallied 12 points and six steals. Lillianna Morales was all over the boards as she grabbed nine rebounds.
Lola Idir had six rebounds. Precious Mitchell had nine points, shooting 80 percent (4-5 FG). Mitchell and D'Andre McRae each pulled down five rebounds.
Alexis Davis led the visiting Cougars with 17 points and eight rebounds.
The Bearcats' next game will be a CUNYAC matchup against the York College Cardinals on Wednesday, January 22, at 5:30 p.m. in the ARC Arena.
