The Bearcats traveled to Haledon, New Jersey, on Saturday to compete in the ECAC Division III Championship Tournament against the William Paterson University Pioneers.
The Bearcats battled hard, but lost 81-63.
William Paterson went on a 9-2 run to start the first quarter, but the Bearcats responded with a 7-3 run of their own, initiated by Elissa Leung on a fast-break jumper and assisted by Mia Castillo. The Pioneers might have ended the quarter with a 25-13 lead, but that didn't discourage the squad from competing to the very end.
In the fourth quarter, starting at 7:57, the team went on an 11-3 run, starting with a three-pointer by Castillo, assisted by Lola Idir. During the last five minutes, Castillo and Lilliana Morales both hit two shots each, cutting the Pioneers' lead to 16. They also played solid defense, preventing the Pioneers from making a three-pointer.
However, the Bearcats came up short in the quarterfinal loss.
Castillo scored 34 points to go along with six assists, five rebounds, and three steals. Angela Bacarella put ten points up to go along with two steals. Leung recorded four total steals.
Morales, Idir and D'Andre McRae each came away with six rebounds.
This is the final game of three seniors who will be graduating from Baruch College and played their hearts out in every contest. Thank you Mia Castillo, Elissa Leung, and Angela Bacarella!
