Bearcats Overcome Hunter in 3-1 Battle of Lexington Victory

The Bearcats went up the road on Lexington Avenue to battle against their CUNYAC rivals, the Hunter College Hawks, on Tuesday evening in the Hunter Sportsplex.

The Bearcats won 3-1 (25-21,15-25, 25-23, 25-14).

Their overall record has improved to 9-7 and they remain undefeated (8-0) in the CUNYAC.

The squad got off to a 5-1 start in the first set and later a kill by Peter Gavroff assisted by Kory Lingenfelter gave them a 19-14 lead. The Bearcats ended up winning the first set 25-21.

The second set saw the squad get off to a slow pace, finding themselves down by as much as nine points (16-7). The Hawks extended the lead and won the set by double-digits 25-15.

This did not stop the Bearcats from clawing their way back into the match. They were down 7-4 early in the third set, but went on a 7-1 run to give themselves an 11-8 advantage over the Hawks.

Hunter came back to tie at 11-11, but a kill by Noah Pak assisted by Ryan Oommen gave the squad a 12-11 lead, and they never gave it back.The set concluded on a kill by Gavroff assisted by Oommen for a close 25-23 victory.

In the final set, the momentum stayed on the other side of Lexington Avenue as the Bearcats started off losing 6-5, but went on a game-busting 11-0 run kick started by Ari Osmanaj and assisted by Oommen. A kill by Pak on a dish from Oommen sealed the set and match 25-14 to win in four sets.
