The Bearcats traveled to Jamaica, N.Y. on Saturday to play a CUNYAC battle against the York College Cardinals. They won the match 3-1 (25-13, 22-25, 25-14, 25-9).
The squad now has an 11-7 overall record and 10-0 in the CUNYAC.
In the first set, the squad started on the rear end of a 6-1 Cardinals run. However, the Bearcats came back to tie the match (9-9), which soon turned into their first lead (10-9) on a kill by Ari Osmanaj that was assisted by Ryan Oommen.
The squad went on to lead the rest of the way and took a double-digit lead at 23-13. They ended up winning the set 25-13.
In the second set, the Bearcats went up 4-0 before the Cardinals came back to tie the match four times. After being tied at 9-9, both teams played hard, but York slowly chipped away with the lead and won the set 25-22. It was their first set they have won against the Bearcats since 2014.
In set number three, the Bearcats went up 5-1 early on and led the entire way. A kill by Ari Osmanaj on a serve from Argjend Osmanaj resulted in a 19-12 lead for Baruch and a 6-2 run to win the set 25-14.
The fourth set saw the squad get off to a 10-1 start on a kill by Aaron Clarke that was assisted by Valentin Rodriguez. They continued to go on a 15-8 run to claim the set and take home the 3-1 match victory.
Stanley Sanchez led the York College Cardinals with 26 assists.
The next match for the Bearcats will be a home CUNYAC contest against the CCNY Beavers in the ARC Arena on Tuesday, March 18, at 6:00 p.m.
