Baseball Splits DH Against Old Westbury

The baseball team split their doubleheader against Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon on Long Island.

The Bearcats were the home team on the scoreboard for both games at Old Westbury. They started strong in the first game, jumping out to a 3-0 lead on an RBI single by Peter Marino and Joseph Cocozza, who stole home. They scored their third run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Kenneth Pastrana

Old Westbury tied the game with a three-run fifth inning but the Bearcats came right back in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double by Benjamin Luciano and an RBI single by Andrew DeRose.

Old Westbury added a run in the sixth inning to cut the score to 5-4 but pitcher John Kim pitched the complete game going 7 innings, giving up seven hits, and only two earned runs for his second complete game win of the season.

Old Westbury tried to rally in their final at-bat with runners on first and second with two outs. They smacked a single to left center and thought they had tied the game but Peter Marino gunned down their runner at third base before the runner at home plate could score in a dramatic and exciting finish.

In the second game, the Bearcats again scored two runs in the first inning on a two-run single to right field by Cocozza.

Old Westbury scored twice in the second inning, two more in the fifth inning, and one more in the sixth inning to jump ahead 5-2.

The Bearcats rallied in their last at-bat and could only get a run across on a Benjamin Luciano sacrifice fly RBI. The second game of the doubleheader ended with Old Westbury winning 5-3 for the split.
