Game Recap: Softball |

Bearcats Softball Play Strong DH Against Saint Joseph (CT), Darkness Halts Second Game

The softball team hosted the University of Saint Joseph of Connecticut in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon on Randalls Island.

The first game was a pitching duel with neither team scoring in the first three innings but the visiting Blue Jays scored three times in the fourth to hold off the Bearcats in a very highly contested 4-1 game.

The Bearcats' lone run came in the fifth inning on a Mina Barriga RBI single to right field scoring Melanie Robles

The second game of the doubleheader was a tale of two different halves.

The Blue Jays jumped out to a 10-0 lead after the top of the fourth inning and appeared to be cruising but the Bearcats showed their resiliency coming right back.

They scored eight straight runs starting with a Grace Osuch RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning to score Barriga.

The bats really came alive in the fifth inning with seven runs on six hits.

Caroline Gallagher, who pitched a solid first game of the doubleheader and came on in relief in the third inning of this game to kill a rally, smacked a two-run RBI single in the big fifth inning.

Osuch added another RBI single and Milagros Arias had a two RBI single to get as close as 10-8 before a pitching change.

The game was then halted due to darkness with the Bearcats momentum ending in a tough 10-8 loss.

Leilani Jimenez and Barriga finished with two hits each.
