Bearcats Softball Splits DH at SUNY Purchase

The Bearcats and SUNY Purchase split a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon in Purchase New York. 

The Bearcats bats came alive in the first game recording a resounding 10-0 win in five innings. 

The visiting Bearcats scored their first run in the second inning on a wild pitch and then exploded for three runs in the fourth inning and six runs in the fifth inning for the mercy rule win.

Jules Wychunas, Bridget Campanelli, and Grace Osuch each recorded two hits as part of the team's overall 10-hit attack. Wychunas and Leilani Jimenez finished with three RBI each. 

Campanelli also reached base in each of her three at-bats and scored two runs. 

Reina Johnson pitched the complete game, two-hitter, with four strikeouts for the victory on the mound.

In a second game, Purchase jumped out to a 5-2 lead after three innings and added five more runs in the fourth to build a 10-5 advantage that they managed to keep the rest of the game to salvage a split at home.

Wychunas, Jimenez, and Mia Faddah each had two hits in the team's six-hit attack. Faddah also walked twice to reach base during each of her four at-bats.

Purchase recorded 10 hits for the victory.

The Bearcats will continue their busy schedule on Friday with a 3:00 p.m. non-conference home doubleheader at Randalls Island against the University of Saint Joseph of Connecticut.
