Baseball Split DH Against John Jay, Now Stand 4-4 in CUNYAC

The baseball team and John Jay College played to a CUNYAC doubleheader split on Friday afternoon at Kean University in Union, New Jersey.

The visiting Bearcats against the home team, John Jay, saw a terrific pitchers' duel in the first game between Bearcat John Kim and Bloodhound Sean Jost.

John Jay scored once in the first and once in the fourth inning to lead 2-0 early, but the Bearcats cut the score to 2-1 in the fourth inning on a Joseph Bello RBI ground out to score Peter Marino

Neither team scored the rest of the game for the 2-1 result in favor of John Jay.

The Bearcats played one of their best games of the season and won game two 10-3 behind a 13-hit effort.

The runs arrived quickly in the first inning with a Bello RBI walk and Joseph Cocozza scoring on a wild pitch.

John Jay took the lead with three runs in their third inning but the pitching tandem of Andrew LaPointe (Win, 4.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 K)  and Bello (Save, 3 IP, 0 R, 1 K) shut them out the rest of the game. The pitching victory was the first for LaPointe.

The visiting Bearcats scored three runs in the fifth inning and four insurance runs in the seventh for a 10 total runs.

Cocozza scored on a fielding error, Michael Rossi scored on a passed ball, and Nicholas Morabito smacked an RBI single to start the fifth inning rally.

Kenneth Pastrana, Roy Longarzo, and Cocozza each had RBI singles in the seventh, while Marino added another RBI on a ground out for the 10-3 win.
