Bearcats Fall in NCAA 2nd Round, Finish Season With 18 Wins & CUNYAC Title

POST-MATCH PRESS CONFERENCE

The men's volleyball team went away to New York University's John A. Paulson Center to face off against the number one-ranked Violets in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday afternoon.

The Bearcats fought hard and played with great resilience. They were one of half a dozen remaining teams that made it to the second round.

Unfortunately, they were defeated in three sets (22-25, 17-25, 5-25).

The squad went on a 7-1 run in the first set, starting with a service ace from Ryan Oommen. The Violets of NYU made a run, but the squad managed to hold on to the lead, and the match was tied until 17-17 late in the opening set.

The Bearcats stayed in front until NYU scored to make it 19-18, and they went on to win set number one 25-22.

Set number two saw a back-and-forth battle between the two teams with four ties, but NYU eventually returned and won 25-17.

NYU won the third set in control 25-5 to stay undefeated (26-0) and advance to the NCAA quarterfinal at home on Saturday night against Cal Lutheran.

The Bearcats had an outstanding season, finishing first place again in CUNYAC and winning the 2025 CUNYAC Championship for the fifth straight season.

The squad was led by their coaching staff, Assistant Coach Carrie Thomas and Head Coach Ezri Shor.

The team finishes with an 18-12 season record.
