Baseball Runs Past CCNY, Sweep DH (14-12, 18-6)

The baseball team totaled 32 runs and 34 hits in a sweep (14-12, 18-6) of the Beavers of CCNY in a CUNYAC doubleheader played on a warm Friday afternoon at Ohio Field on the campus of Bronx Community College.

The Bearcats won the opener 14-12 and broke a 12-12 tie in their bottom half of the sixth inning by scoring twice with Kenneth Pastrana smacking an RBI triple and Roy Longarzo with a bunt RBI single for the go-ahead two runs to clinch the game 1 victory.

Luis Sanchez earned the win in relief (1.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) and Joseph Bello earned his second save of the season retiring all three batters in a quick seventh-inning appearance.

Three Bearcats - Roy Longarzo, Kenneth Pastrana (home run), and Matthew Rappa - finished with three hits each. Pastrana and Rappa also scored four runs each.

The bats stayed hot in the second game with an 18-6 victory that included a nine-run second inning and seven more runs in the third inning to put the game out of reach early.

Joseph Cocozza led the way batting 4-for-5, with a double, triple, three RBIs, and two runs scored.

Rookie pitcher Andrew LaPointe had a solid outing on the mound with six strikeouts for his second win of the season.
