The Baruch College Bearcats earned a decisive three-set sweep over the Panthers of Purchase College in Saturday afternoon's non-conference match at the ARC Arena.
The Bearcats started strong in the opening set, with Alicia Graves landing the first kill off a set from Karen Pozo Castro. Baruch quickly took control with a 10-2 run and never looked back, closing out the first set with authority.
The second set was even more dominant. Baruch opened with a 7-0 run and built a lead of up to 15 points, cruising to a 25-10 win.
Castro set the tone in the third set with a service ace, and the Bearcats jumped out to a commanding 23-8 lead. Purchase staged a late comeback, scoring 10 straight points to close the gap to 23-18, but Baruch sealed the sweep thanks to back-to-back kills from Karolina Lundqvist.
Purchase's Marcella Peña led the Panthers with 11 digs in the loss.
The Bearcats will return to action on September 23, traveling to Riverdale, NY, to face the the University of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins at 6 p.m.
