The women's basketball team delivered an unforgettable performance on Bearcat Alumni Day, rallying from a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat John Jay College, 76-71, in an exciting CUNYAC contest at the ARC Arena.
The visiting Bloodhounds controlled much of the game, using a 9-1 run late in the second quarter to take a 33-24 halftime lead. They extended that advantage to 15 points (39-24) early in the third and entered the final period ahead 57-43, appearing firmly in control.
But the Bearcats never lost their composure. In a stunning turnaround, they erupted for 33 points in the fourth quarter.
Lola Idir was unstoppable, scoring 20 of her career-high 28 points in the final frame. Her clutch shooting included two three-pointers, a layup, and a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line. Idir's three-pointer with 3:50 remaining gave Baruch its first lead at 63-61.
John Jay briefly regained the lead at 69-66 on a jumper by Natalie Simonds, but Baruch's free-throw shooting down the stretch sealed the win. Idir went 4-for-4 from the line after a technical foul with 1.8 seconds left, securing the 76-71 victory.
Brianna Lopez added a career-high 16 points off the bench, including a 10-for-12 effort at the stripe in the fourth quarter. Lillianna Morales contributed a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds and hit a big 3-pointer in the fourth quarter rally.
For John Jay, Michaela Lattimore led the way with a double-double of 22 points and 17 rebounds.
