The baseball team opened its schedule Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader against the Patriots from University of Valley Forge.
The Bearcats battled and received solid pitching but dropped both games of the doubleheader at George Brett Field.
In the opener, Valley Forge struck first in the second inning with an RBI single and added two more runs in the fifth to take a 3–0 lead. The Bearcats threatened early, putting a runner in scoring position in each of the first two innings, but were unable to bring anyone home.
Valley Forge extended its advantage with two additional runs later in the game. Starting pitcher Evelyn Asijah went the distance, tossing a complete-game four-hitter to secure the 5–0 shutout.
Game two featured a pitching duel between Bearcats starter John Kim and Valley Forge's Brandon Dalmado.
The Bearcats struck first, as Peter Marino scored on a fielding error in the opening inning to give them a 1–0 lead. The score remained unchanged until the sixth inning, when Valley Forge tied the game with an RBI double. The Patriots then walked it off in the seventh inning with another double deep to center field, sealing a 2–1 victory.
Kim finished with nine strikeouts on the mound, while five different Bearcats recorded at least one hit in the tough loss.
The game also included a 30-minute delay due to rain and thunder.
The Bearcats return to action Sunday morning with a 9:00 a.m. doubleheader against Skidmore College in Fort Myers.
