John will begin his fourth season as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach.
He was promoted to Head Coach on March 7, 2012. He joined the Baruch staff in June 2011 and spent his first year as the Associate Head Coach before his promotion.
He coached the team to the 2014-15 CUNYAC Championship (televised on ESPN3) and the team's fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament. For his efforts, he was named the CUNYAC Coach of the Year in a season that featured a 21-7 record and 14-2 mark in the conference.
Alesi, a 2003 graduate of Baruch College with a bachelor’s degree in marketing management, returned to Baruch following stints as an assistant coach with the Division I staffs at the University of Pittsburgh (2005-06), Hofstra University (2003-2004), and Manhattan College (2006-10).
The native of Staten Island also served as the Head Coach of rival Hunter College during 2010-11 and led the Hawks to the semifinals of the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Championship Tournament that season.
As an undergraduate at Baruch, Alesi played four years at guard and led the team to their first-ever CUNYAC Championship and NCAA berth in 2000.
As a senior in 2003, he captained the Bearcats to their first-ever ECAC Metro Regional Championship and was named MVP of the post-season tournament as the team finished with a team best record of 25-5. He finished his Baruch career with 1,091 points.
In addition to his duties in basketball, John will also serve as compliance coordinator.
