Ranford Champagnie, St. John’s ’99

Ranford Champagnie will begin his 9th season as head coach of the men's soccer team.
He was appointed as the men's soccer coach on December 15, 2003, and previously served as an assistant coach during the 2001 and 2002 seasons.
During his first season as head coach, he led Baruch to their first-ever CUNYAC Tournament Championship and appearance in the NCAA Tournament. For his efforts, he was named the 2004 CUNYAC Conference Coach of the Year.
He repeated those same accomplishments in 2006, as the Bearcats won the CUNYAC Tournament Championship, returned to play in the NCAA Tournament, and was named for the second time as Conference Coach of the Year.
The coaching success has not stopped for Ranford as he was also named the CUNYAC Coach of the Year two more times in 2009 and 2010.
Ranford enjoyed an outstanding three-year career at St. John's University, scoring five goals and 15 assists. During his freshman year at St. John's, he started 22 games and captured the Big East Championship. He scored four goals and eight assists during his sophomore year leading the Red Storm to the 1996 NCAA Division I National Championship.
The midfielder injured his knee in preseason before the 1997 season, but bounced back to start 20 of the 21 Red Storm matches during his senior year.
As a high school player, he helped James Monroe High in the Bronx to the New York State championship, while earning the Iron Horse Award as the Player of the Year in New York State.
Ranford spent his summer of 2005 as head coach of the Brooklyn Knights semi-pro soccer team.
Champagnie, who holds a marketing degree from St. John's, lives in Brooklyn with his wife, Christina, and his twin sons, Justin and Julian.
