Dominique McClendon Named CUNYAC Player of the Week
Senior guard Chiresse Paradise (Chicago, III./Rich Central) scored a pair of 3-pointers with five seconds left, including one as the clock expired, to give Baruch a dramatic 77-74 victory over Farmingdale State University on Tuesday night in the ARC Arena.
The highly charged non-conference game, which had the crowd in a frenzy over the exciting high-pace action all evening, featured 46 totals fouls, four technicals and two player ejections.
Baruch seemed to have the game in control leading 70-59 with 5:02 left, but the visiting Rams fought back with a vengeance to take a lead of 72-71 on a lay up by Christine Daley (Elmont, NY/Elmont) with 17 seconds left.
The Rams added to their advantage when Janel Monah (Westbury, NY/Westbury) knocked home two free throws with 10 seconds to give the visitors a three-point cushion.
Paradise dribbled the length of the court to drain a 3-pointer to tie it at 74.
Farmingdale State immediately in-bounded the ball, but Paradise forced a turnover to get Baruch possession back with just under three seconds remaining.
Following a timeout, Paradise took control again and beat the defense into the corner to fire a three-pointer to end the exciting game and send the crowd celebrating onto the court.
Paradise finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, three blocks, three steals and three assists.
Karlee Whipple (Lund, Nevada/Lund) notched 14 points, five rebounds and two steals, while super sub Kaleia Davis (Bronx, NY/Lehman) had another double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Myleka Garnett (Seaside, California/Seaside) was the fourth Baruch player in double-figure scoring with 10 points, six rebounds and six steals. Dominique McClendon (Chicago, III/Seaside) and Naesha Tyler-Moore (Chicago, III./Rich Central) each scored eight points.
Kimberly Blakney (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker) led the visitors from Long Island in scoring with 20 points and four steals.
Mercedes Miller (New York, NY/Manhattan Center) and Kamaya Miller (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) were ejected with 7:46 left in the second half for leaving the bench during a heated moment.
The women's basketball team will return to action on Friday, November 30th, when they travel to Union, New Jersey to face #7 nationally-ranked Kean University. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
