The women’s basketball team defeated the Lightning of Lehman College, 79-63, in a CUNYAC home game played on Thursday night in the ARC Arena.
The Lightning (4-4, 1-1 CUNYAC) started the game strong and led 15-8 at the 11:03 mark of the opening half, but the Bearcats (5-2, 2-0 CUNYAC) scored the last 10 points to enter the intermission leading, 30-23.
They kept up their intensity to open the second half and took control to eventually build a commanding 70-49 advantage with 5:02 remaining.
The visitors did make it interesting late to get as close as 73-60 on a lay up by Paulie Tuazon (New York, NY/School of the Future), but the Bearcats pulled away to clinch their third consecutive victory.
Senior guard Chiresse Paradise (Chicago, III./Rich Central) led the Bearcats this evening with 15 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and four steals. With the exception of one conference overtime loss during her freshman season, Paradise has won every single CUNYAC contest she has played throughout her career at Baruch College.
Senior Naesha Tyler-Moore (Chicago, III./Rich Central) and sophomore forward Kaleia Davis (Bronx, NY/Lehman) each scored 14 points.
Senior center Dominique McClendon (Chicago, III./Seaside) totaled 12 points, six rebounds and two steals.
Junior Awa Diop (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenhill) had a solid outing in her first appearance in the ARC Arena with nine points and eight rebounds in 16 minutes of action.
The Bearcats took control of the game by scoring 42 points off 33 Lehman turnovers.
The team also received 29 points from their bench to keep the intensity strong all game.
The visitors were led by Sally Nnamani (Warwick, NY/Warwick) with 20 points, six rebounds, six assists and seven blocked shots (six in the first half).
Tiara Carroll (Bronx, NY/Msgr. Scanlan) had a solid game under the boards with a game-high 16 rebounds.
Baruch will travel to Scranton, Pennsylvania this weekend to compete in the Diversified Invitational hosted by the University of Scranton.
They will play Hamilton on Saturday at 5:00 pm and the hosts Scranton on Sunday at 3:00 pm.
