Win Streak Reaches Five, Men's Soccer Defeats Staten Island (1-0)

The men's soccer team earned a tough 1-0 road win on Saturday afternoon against the College of Staten Island.

With the victory, the Bearcats raise their record to 6-2-3 overall and 5-1 in CUNYAC, which currently stands for second place in the conference standings. 

The visiting Bearcats dominated the entire match with a 33-13 shot advantage, including 21 total in the first half.

Daniel Ospina recorded the only score in the 21st minute on a 25-yard free kick to notch his third goal of season. Ospina, a product of Francis Lewis H.S. in Queens, finished a busy afternoon with eight total shots.

Valiantsin Kirykovich and Ibek Abdrahmanov had four shots each to help keep the Dolphins on their side of the field most of the afternoon.

Nelson DiBastiano posted his fourth shutout with six saves.

The victory helps the Bearcats also improve to 5-0-1 in their last six overall matches, featuring a solid defense that has allowed only two goals.

SCHEDULING NOTE: At the request of Polytechnic, the Baruch home soccer match on Monday (Columbus Day) has been cancelled. The match will not be made up this season, due to a lack of available dates. Polytechnic requested the cancellation in order to make up a conference match.


The Bearcats will return to action Wednesday night at the Met Oval with an 8:00 pm non-conference match against Cooper Union.
