Women's Volleyball Defeats Old Westbury in Four; Posey Wilson Named CUNYAC Rookie of the Week

The women’s volleyball team won their fourth straight match with a convincing road victory at the State University of New York at Old Westbury on Wednesday night in Long Island.

The Bearcats recorded a 25-20, 25-14, 20-25, 25-12 four-set victory to improve to 14-14 overall (14-13 vs. Div. III) with the final stretch of the regular season schedule about to begin.

Senior Nicole Baruffaldi had another outstanding evening with 10 kills, eight service aces and 11 digs to lead the Bearcats to victory.

Senior Staren Soanes also came up big with 11 kills, while junior Mayra Estepan notched 10 kills and eight digs.

Kristin Walker had a match high 36 assists, while Posey Wilson was solid on the defensive end again with 25 total digs.

In other team news, Wilson was named the CUNYAC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. Wilson defended the back row with a 3.5 digs per set average during their 3-2 week.

She notched double-digit digs in all four of Baruch's three-set matches, including a week-high 18 in a road sweep at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Oct. 8).

Wilson also dug out 10 balls defensively and served up three aces in the Bearcats' 3-0 sweep at Brooklyn (Oct. 6) in CUNYAC play.

The women’s volleyball team will return home to the ARC Arena on Friday with a pair matches against Central College of Iowa (4:00 pm) and Montclair State University (8:00 pm).
