Box Score

The men’s soccer team knocked off first place York College, 2-1, in a conference home match on Wednesday night at the Met Oval in the Maspeth section of Queens.

Junior Valiantsin Kirykovich opened the scoring in the 36th minute by knocking in a feed inside the box from freshman Daniel Ospina for the 1-0 advantage.

They increased their lead to two on a big insurance goal by freshman Dominick Cinquemani in the 80th minute.

Junior defender Juan Vasconez started the play with a long ball counter attack pass that found Cinquemani for the one-on-one opportunity to beat the goalkeeper. The goal was the sixth of the season for the freshman from Christ the King High School.

York (7-6, 4-2 CUNYAC) cut the lead to one goal at the 86:30 mark to keep things interesting until the final whistle. Elysee Vilsaint struck a ball from just outside the 18-yard box to record his 13th goal of the season.

The Bearcats led in the shot category (20-10) and forced York keeper Marcin Kasza into recording six total saves.

The victory gives the Bearcats five wins and one tie in their last six matches to improve to 5-2-3 overall and 4-1 in CUNYAC. York drops to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in CUNYAC.

The Bearcats will next hit the road on Saturday with a 3:00 pm conference match up at the College of Staten Island.
