The women’s basketball went on the road Tuesday night to defeat the Rams from Farmingdale State University, 78-71, in a non-conference game in Farmingdale, New York.

The Bearcats (2-1) started off strong right from the opening tap by building a 33-11 advantage with 6:17 remaining in the opening half.

Farmingdale State (0-3) made several runs the rest of the game and did manage to cut the lead to only four points (75-71) with 45 seconds left on a jumper by Shemique Hooks.

However, senior guard Karlee Whipple nailed a big 3-pointer on Baruch’s next trip down the court and that proved to be enough to walk away with the 78-71 victory.

Whipple led the visiting Bearcats with 18 points, while Shadae Rice scored 14 points, including 2-of-4 from three-point range, in just her third collegiate contest.

Kalea Davis (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Latesha Reddick (11 points, 12 rebounds) each notched double-doubles again. Davis also had five steals.

Baruch finished shooting 53 percent (28-53), while the home team Rams struggled with only 29 percent (27-93). In all, Farmingdale attempted 40 more shots this evening.

Kimberly Blakney and Shemique Hooks each finished with 21 points for Farmingdale. Blakney also had an evening to remember for a triple double with 14 rebounds, 10 steals and three blocked shots.

The women’s basketball team will return to action on Tuesday, December 2, with a 5:30 pm CUNYAC road game at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn.
