Women's Basketball Win Fourth Straight, Cruise Past Rutgers-Newark (74-52)

The women’s basketball team broke open a close game early (15-14) with a 19-7 run in the final 10 minutes of the first half en route to a 74-52 road victory against Rutgers-Newark on Monday night in Newark, New Jersey.

The visiting Bearcats controlled play the entire game as the Scarlet Raiders from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) struggled to get the deficit to under 16 points during the second half.

Baruch (5-1) shot 46 percent (31-67), and led in the rebounding category (48-40) to help the team record their fifth win in six games to start the regular season.

Rutgers-Newark (2-6) shot only 28 percent (19-67), and turned over the ball 18 total times.

Junior forward Kalea Davis, honored twice today as the CUNYAC Women’s Player of the Week and a Met Basketball Writer’s Association Honorable Mention, had another double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Sophomore point guard Monique Salmon was busy again at point guard dishing out a career-high 12 assists to go along with eight points, while junior center Latesha Reddick scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Sophomore guard Lorin Clarke scored nine points and junior forward Christina Kelly contributed seven rebounds to help the Bearcats stretch their win streak to four games.

Renee Edwards and Bimpe Fageyinho scored 10 points each to lead Rutgers-Newark.

The women’s basketball team will return to action in New Jersey again on Wednesday with a 5:30 pm non-conference road game against Montclair State University from the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
