Valiantsin Kirykovich (Pinsk, Belarus/No. 15) scored a goal in each half to lead the Bearcats to a 2-0 home victory against the City College of New York on Wednesday night at the Met Oval in the Maspeth section of Queens.

The victory, which ends a four-match losing streak to CCNY that dates back to 2004, improves the Bearcats to 2-2-3 overall and 2-1 in CUNYAC, while CCNY drop to 4-4 and 2-1 in CUNYAC.

The Bearcats dominated the opening half with a 10-1 shot advantage, and were rewarded for their attacking when Daniel Wright (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) fed a through ball to Kirykovich to open the scoring at the 27:00 minute mark.

Kirykovich, a second-year striker on the team, added his second goal three minutes into the second half by heading home a perfectly placed free kick into the box from rookie Ibek Abdrahmanov (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison).

CCNY managed six shots in the second half, but the defense and junior goalkeeper Nelson DiBastiano (Rego Park, N.Y.) shut them down to keep the visiting Beavers off the scoreboard. DiBastiano finished the match with five total saves.

The young Baruch defense has now allowed only one goal in their last three matches, while the offense has found the back of the net six times in that same stretch.

The Bearcats will now enjoy a much-need break to their schedule and will next return to action on Saturday, October 4, with a 3:00 pm home match against Brooklyn College at the Met Oval.
