Box Score

Tammer Farid scored 17 points to pace four players in double-figure scoring to lead the Bearcats to an 82-76 road victory on Wednesday night at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

The Bearcats took a 14 point (39-25) halftime lead, but watched the Bloodhounds excite the crowd with 12 straight points at the start of the second half to turn a run away game into a tight 39-37 contest with 15:34 remaining.

Lionel Hilaire responded to the run with a three-pointer and Sean Loftus contributed a 3-point play off a foul to help give the Bearcats back a comfortable 45-37 advantage.

John Jay tried to climb back all evening with Chris Jaeger scoring all 23 of his points in the second half, but could only cut the deficit to three points (77-74) with 34 ticks left on the clock.

Baruch sealed the victory by hitting five-of-six free throws to record their 16th win and a perfect 8-0 in conference standings.

Mike Dietz had another solid game with 15 points and two steals, while Lionel Hilaire finished with 12 points. Eric Quintero rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points (3-3 fg, 4-4 ft) in 16 minutes off the bench.

George Kunkel, the CUNYAC Player of the Week, scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds. Steven Bader had the opposite with nine points and eight rebounds.

John Jay won the rebounding (37-36) and shooting percentage (45 to 44 percent) battles, but struggled all evening to contain Baruch’s balanced scoring attack.

The men’s basketball team will return to action on Friday night with a short trip on the #6 subway to play at Hunter College. Tip off at the Hunter Sportsplex is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
