Women's Volleyball Lose Opener to Western Connecticut State

The women's volleyball team lost their season opener in three
(25-13, 25-19, 25-12) to the Colonials of Western Connecticut State University in a non-conference match on Tuesday night in Danbury, Connecticut.

The visiting Bearcats were led on the stat sheet by sophomore Posey Wilson (Fayetteville, Arkansas/Fayetteville) with a career-high 27 digs in three games, while freshman setter Melinda Santiago (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) began her intercollegiate debut with 15 assists.

Junior Martina Micko (Ostrava, Czech Republic/Glen Cove) contributed eight digs in the first of 32 matches to be played by the team this regular season.

The Colonials, picked to finish third by their respective coaches in the Little East Conference preseason poll, were led this evening by Becca Stein (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) with 10 kills and Kelley Collins (Massapequa, N.Y./
Massapequa) with 21 digs

The Bearcats will look to regroup this weekend when they return to action in Philadelphia by competing in the Philadelphia Biblical Invitational during the upcoming Labor Day Weekend.

The team has matches on Saturday scheduled against the hosts Philadelphia Biblical University (8:30 am), New Jersey City University (10:30 am), and a playoff (2:30 pm or 4:30 pm) to be determined.
