Women's Volleyball Sweeps York, Fall in Five to Hunter in CUNYAC Multi-Match

The women’s volleyball team spilt their two opening conference matches of the season in the multi-match event hosted Saturday by York College in Jamaica, New York.

The Bearcats (5-3, 1-1 CUNYAC) began their early morning schedule with a match against rival Hunter College (4-5, 2-0 CUNYAC).

They started with an opening set 25-19 win and also took a five point lead at one point during the second set, but the Hawks battled back to win, 26-24, to tie (1-1) the showdown.

Baruch took the third set easily, 25-14, but the Hawks rallied to win the fourth, 25-19, to force the exciting fifth set tie-breaker. The Hawks came away victorious, 15-8, for the overall victory.

Martina Micko led the Bearcats with 15 kills, while Carissa Hoover and Christina Pierre added 11 kills each. Melinda Santiago dished out 37 assists and Posey Wilson came up big defensively again with a career-high 33 digs.

The Bearcats bounced back in the second match with a convincing 25-11, 25-8, 25-16 sweep of the hosts York College (2-4, 0-1 CUNYAC).

Micko led the way again with eight total kills, while Santiago recorded 16 assists. Wilson finished with six digs.

The women’s volleyball team will return to action on Tuesday, September 15, with a 6:00 pm conference match at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
