Bearcats Rout Lehman (84-54), Team Honors Kalea Davis for Scoring 1,000 Career Points

The women’s basketball team defeated the Lightning of Lehman College, 84-54, in a CUNYAC home contest on Friday night in the ARC Arena.

Prior to the game, the women’s team and coaching staff honored Kalea Davis for scoring her 1,000 career point in a game this past Monday night at York College. Davis is the eighth player in Baruch women’s basketball history to score 1,000 points.

With the victory, the Bearcats raise their record to 13-3 overall and a perfect 6-0 in CUNYAC, while the Lightning fall to 5-11 overall and 3-2 in CUNYAC.

Lehman took an early 13-8 lead at the 12:30 mark of the first half, but the Bearcats regrouped with a dominant 22-6 run to take a 30-19 halftime lead.

During the second half, the visiting Lightning battled to get as close as 51-41 with 10:20 left, but Baruch dominated the rest of the way by outscoring their opponent, 33-13, over the final 10 minutes to complete the rout.

Megan Bouwens (21 points, 11 rebounds) and Kalea Davis (17 points, 11 rebounds) led Baruch with a double-double each. Anika Sierk scored 18 points and Christina Kelly contributed 11 points and five steals.

Monique Salmon dished out 13 assists to also help the Bearcats stretch their CUNYAC win streak (tournament & regular season) to 26 games.

Leslie Mencia led Lehman with a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds.

The women’s basketball team will return to action on Tuesday, January 19, with a 7:00 pm non-conference road game at #7-ranked Scranton University (11-2, 3-1 LAND) in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
