Women's Volleyball Win Two at Montclair State Tri-Match, Win Streak Reaches Nine

The women’s volleyball team won both of their matches on Saturday at the tri-match hosted by Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey.

The visiting Bearcats started slow against Montclair State (4-25) in losing the first set (27-25), but rebounded to win the overall match with scores of 25-21, 25-17, 25-21 to defeat Montclair for the second time this season.

Melinda Santiago recorded one of the best performances of the season with a triple-double effort of 38 assists, 18 digs and 10 kills.

Christina Pierre led the attack with 14 kills, Lauren Hayden had 13 kills, and Carissa Oliveira finished another solid match with 11 kills and 10 total digs. Posey Wilson was tops again on the important defensive end with 27 total digs.

The Bearcats recorded one of their best wins of the season in the second match against FDU-Florham, which entered the day with a 26-6 overall record.

Bearcats won on the neutral court at Montclair State with tightly contested scores of 25-23, 25-22, 25-23 to sweep their opponent from the Freedom Conference.

Pierre led the way again with 10 kills and three blocks, while Oliveira and Hayden finished with eight kills each. Santiago dished out 28 assists and Wilson finished with 16 digs.

The women’s volleyball team will return to action on Tuesday, October 26, with a 7:00 pm CUNYAC road match at Brooklyn College.
