The baseball team began their Florida schedule in the city of Cocoa on Tuesday afternoon by playing a non-conference doubleheader against Nichols College of Massachusetts.

The Bearcats won the opening game by the score of 6-5 with Kellin Bliss (5IP, 4ER, 4K) recording the victory, while Noel Placencia pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn his second save of the young season.

The Bearcats broke open the game early with four runs in the second inning behind the hitting of Richard Melendez (2-3, one RBI, two runs scored).

Thomas Daly had a big two RBI double in the fifth inning for what turned out to be the eventual game-winning hit.

In the second game, Ryan McGuire pitched a solid three-hitter with one unearned run, but still suffered the tough 1-0 loss as Nichols scored the only run in the fourth inning. The Bearcats offense was limited to four total hits in their first defeat of the season.

The baseball team will return to action tomorrow in Cocoa with a 4:00 pm single non-conference game against Hilbert College of Buffalo.
