Bearcats Fall to Rutgers-Newark

The baseball team lost a 20-9 non-conference contest to the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark on Sunday afternoon in Newark, New Jersey.

Rutgers-Newark (11-14) totaled 20 runs on 20 hits, and jumped out to a 13-2 lead after five innings of action.

The visiting Bearcats (7-12) totaled nine runs on 12 total hits. They rallied to get as close as 13-7 in the top of the seventh inning, but Rutgers-Newark put the game out of reach with six runs in the bottom of the eight inning to clinch the victory.

David Chestnut and Thomas Daly batted 3-for-5 each, while Joseph Murray (three runs scored) and Richard Melendez (two runs scored) finished with two hits apiece.

The baseball team will look to bounce back on Tuesday, April 13, with a 3:30 pm non-conference single game at the State University of New York at Purchase.
