U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Defeats the Bearcats, 13-4

The baseball team lost a 13-4 non-conference game to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Tuesday afternoon in King’s Point, New York.

The Mariners (5-12 record) from the Landmark Conference scored the first nine runs of the game before the Bearcats (7-11) rallied with three runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh inning to cut the deficit to 9-4.

Despite the late rally, the Mariners went on to score four more runs in the final two innings to clinch the 13-4 victory on a warm day in Long Island.

Overall, the Mariners totaled 13 runs on 14 hits, while the Bearcats finished with four runs on eight total hits.

Peter Dinolfo, the current CUNYAC Rookie of the Week, and Joseph Murray had two hits apiece in the loss. John Avona and Richard Melendez had a double each in the game.

The baseball team will return to action on Thursday, April 8, with a 3:30 pm non-conference game at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue, New York.
