BOX SCORE

The men’s soccer team began their schedule on a positive note with a 2-0 victory over Centenary College in a non-conference home match played on Wednesday night at the Met Oval in Maspeth, New York.

The Bearcats wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as they tallied their first goal just three minutes and 26 seconds into the contest. Junior Jacob Cohen struck a free kick into the box and senior Jason Lopez headed the ball past the goalkeeper for the opening score.

The Bearcats kept pushing the ball on offense and scored their second goal at the 17:45 mark of the opening half. Lopez began the play at midfield by sending a pass to junior Jonas Juozaitis, and he quickly sent a through ball in front of the goal to senior Valiantsin Kirykovich for an easy tap in goal for the 2-0 lead.

Overall, Centenary led the match in shots taken with a 16-10 advantage, but the Baruch back line defense (Alvaro Velasquez, Cesar Castillo, Jacob Cohen) and strong goalkeeping of junior Michael Murphy (9 saves) prevented the visiting Cyclones from scoring at the Met Oval.

Lopez led the Bearcats (1-0) with a goal and assist, while Kirykovich scored a goal and led the team attack with four total shots.

Jimmy Corey and Alex Walters led Centenary (0-1) from Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) this evening with four shots each.

The Bearcats will return to action on Friday, September 3 with a non-conference road match at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. Kick off at Tibbitts Brook Park in Yonkers, New York is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
