Women's Volleyball Sweeps Rutgers-Newark (25-12, 25-22, 25-21)

The women’s volleyball team swept Rutgers-Newark in a non-conference match played on Tuesday evening in Newark, New Jersey.

The Bearcats (11-8) posted a 25-12, 25-22, 25-21 victory to record win #11 on the regular season, while the home team Scarlet Raiders fall to 2-13.


Sara Stephani led the Baruch attack with eight kills (.353) and two blocks, while Melinda Santiago dished out 19 assists and collected four digs.

Jessica Wu and Lauren Hayden finished with six kills each. Wu, who was named again on Monday as the CUNYAC Rookie of the Week, also contributed two aces.

Posey Wilson was tops defensively with 19 digs, while Rebecca Peralta finished with four kills, seven digs, three aces and two blocks.

Overall, the Bearcats totaled 35 kills for a .232 hitting percentage, while Rutgers finished with 25 kills for a .053 hitting percentage. The key to the win was the Bearcats hitting for a strong .310 percentage in the opening set.  

The women’s volleyball team will return to action on Thursday, October 6, with a 7:00 pm non-conference home match against Rutgers-Camden from the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
