The baseball team lost a competitive non-conference doubleheader to the University of Dubuque from Iowa on Saturday afternoon in Fort Myers, Florida.

The first game featured an exciting pitching duel as Dubuque scored the only run in the third inning for the 1-0 shutout victory.

Freshman
Jason Perez pitched a complete game with only four hits allowed, but suffered the disappointing loss. Richard Melendez, Jonathan Ovalles, Alvin Mata and Pooti Ben Pradubsri each recorded a single for the four total team hits in the first game of the doubleheader.

In the second game, the Bearcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in their first at-bat as Richard Melendez scored from third base, as Dubuque attempted to pick off
Anthony Melendez from first.

Dubuque, from the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC), scored two runs in the first, three in the third and one more in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead.

The Bearcats scored their second and final run in the sixth inning as Mata singled and came around to score on an RBI double by
Thomas Daly for the 6-2 score.

The team will return to action in Fort Myers on Sunday, March 13, with a 1:00 pm single game against Kenyon College of Ohio, followed by a rescheduled game at 4:00 pm against St. Joseph’s College of Long Island.
