Baseball Team Rallies to Defeat Albertus Magnus (12-6)

The baseball team overcame an early 4-1 deficit to defeat Albertus Magnus College of Connecticut, 12-6, in a non-conference home contest played on Saturday afternoon at the SUNY-Old Westbury baseball complex on Long Island.

The Bearcats (4-8) ended an eight-game losing streak by scoring three runs in the fourth inning, five in the fifth inning and three more in the eighth to earn the high-scoring 12-6 victory.

Jesus Izarra ran into trouble early, but finished to earn the complete game victory with nine innings pitched, two earned runs allowed and a season-high nine strikeouts.

Four different Baruch players recorded two hits each.
Alvin Mata, John Yuksekol and Manuel Guerrero had two RBI each in the victory.

Both teams finished with 13 total hits each in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

Zak Sokolis led Albertus Magnus (2-6) from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) by batting 3-for-5 with two RBI.

The baseball team will continue their home schedule on Sunday, March 20, with a 12:00 pm non-conference game at the SUNY-Old Westbury baseball complex against SUNY-Oswego.
